From Ability to Spiritual Accompaniment

As a senior counseling psychotherapist my experience is wide reaching. People seem to seek one kind of service or for one focused issue. That is awesome. Focusing is a great ability to have.

One might seek help with behaviour support for disability needs. Another may look for a spiritual director to help discern a vocation to priesthood or to cope with the demands of ministry.

You may need couple counseling. Or perhaps like many couples one of you is against counseling. So you might go for a couple enrichment weekend focused on building strengths and intimacy.

You may be wanting specific help with a phobia or sleeplessness or stress or anxiety. One person may want support while they took themself off antidepressants. Another might seek help while on a medication to address deeper issues including attitudes and ways of coping in life.

Often people seek brief solution focused therapy but then again, others want a long term commitment to personal development. Others look for a deeply Catholic or otherwise Christian approach to discipleship and they actually want a trained secular therapist with gifts in spiritual growth as well as gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Then there is the older man who just wants to talk to someone. No bullshit. Fair enough. Or the woman who is recovering after multiple relationships and low self esteem. There is also the man or woman who feels they  need to address identity and sexuality perhaps also same sex attraction.

There is the individual who is exploring sexual identity. And the self aware gay or lesbian person seeking help or relationship assistance. There are the straight identified who feel same sex attracted and who seek to understand this part of their life. The person in a valued marriage addressing these deeply personal issues, or the curious who simply want to know and understand what it might be like for a son or daughter living these kinds of experiences.

These are only a few of the many ways people seek out this service via online Skype or email or phone conversations. We call this consultancy because we are highly trained with PhDs and several degrees with over 25 nearly 30 years experience in helping. We even teach therapists how to be good counsellors and we supervise counsellors who are in practice in highly specialist areas of expertise.

But truth be told. Just being real and helping someone today is what we do best. Try it out if you like. The risk is only the cost of booking one session with no strings attached. The rest is up to you. What you invest in your needs or seeking will very likely reflect what you get back. But many do say they were surprised that something the therapist said or did, or an insight that really made sense or some other unusual moment made the whole thing really valuable. So much so that they told their family and friends and recommended the experience to them.

All the best.
